The wrapping paper is in the trash, the festive songs have faded, and the credit card bills start rolling in. As we stand on the brink of a new year, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and wonder, "Is this it?" But what if I told you that the birth of Jesus was not just a one-day celebration but a launching point for a life filled with hope and purpose?

The Apostle Paul's Roadmap to Hope
In Philippians 3, the Apostle Paul gives us a powerful roadmap for moving forward. He writes, "Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I press on toward the goal." This isn't just inspiration; it's instruction. It's a call to leave behind the baggage of the past and step into the new year with hope and clarity.

Reflect with Honesty
Before we can move forward, we need to reflect honestly on where we've been. Take some time to review the past year. What were your biggest wins? What drained you the most?
What surprised you, and what did God teach you? By understanding these aspects, you can gain clarity for the days ahead. Remember, you can't forget what you've never faced. So, face those events, learn from them, and prepare to move forward.

Release What Doesn't Belong
To truly embrace the new year, we must release what doesn't belong. Paul didn't hold onto his past as Saul; he embraced his new identity in Christ. Similarly, we need to let go of unresolved tensions, reset expectations, and cast our burdens onto the Lord. Psalm 55:22 reminds us, "Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you." Start 2026 lighter, not heavier, by leaving behind the baggage of 2025.

Refocus with Clarity
Define your January win. What is the one thing that would make January a success for you? Is it praying more, following Jesus closer, or establishing a consistent Bible reading routine? Unclear goals produce unclear results, so focus on one specific, measurable win.

Additionally, choose one growth area for January. Whether it's delegation, strategic thinking, or emotional health, focus on growing in that area for the next four weeks.

Revitalize with Hope
Remember, hope is not just an emotion; it's a person—Jesus Christ. Hebrews 6:19 tells us, "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." Our hope is rooted in Christ, not in our circumstances. As we act like hope is true, we must live and walk by faith, trusting that God will do what He promises. Romans 8:31 encourages us, "If God is for us, who can be against us?"

Practical Steps for a Hopeful New Year

Reflect Honestly: Set aside time to review the past year and learn from it.

Release Baggage: Let go of unresolved tensions and burdens that don't belong to you.

Refocus Goals: Define a clear, achievable goal for January and choose one area for personal growth.

Revitalize with Hope: Anchor your hope in Jesus and act on your faith.

A Prayer for the New Year
Heavenly Father, as we step into this new year, help us to release the past and embrace the hope and purpose You have for us. Guide us to reflect honestly, refocus our goals, and revitalize our spirits with Your presence. May we trust in Your promises and walk by faith, knowing that You are with us every step of the way. In Jesus' name, Amen.

As we enter 2026, let's step forward with hope, expecting Jesus to move mountains in our lives and communities. Remember, you can't grab what's ahead until you release what's behind. Let's trust God to build our lives and advance His kingdom, both near and far.

In a world where we often feel like we're falling short, the message of Christmas offers a profound reminder of a love that is always enough. This love, embodied in Jesus Christ, is the heart of the Christmas story—a love that showed up, came down, and gave all.

The Love That Showed Up
Imagine a love so powerful that it refuses to stay distant. This is the love of Jesus, who showed up in our world, not just in words, but in presence. In Matthew 1:23, we read, "The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel," which means "God with us." Jesus' arrival was not a mere event; it was a divine intervention. He came to be with us in our mess, our struggles, and our joys. Just as a loving family member shows up for the big moments, Jesus shows up for us, offering a love that is tangible and real.

The Love That Came Down
Jesus' love didn't just show up; it came down from the perfection of heaven to the brokenness of earth. He was born in a humble manger, surrounded by the lowly and overlooked. This act of coming down is a powerful symbol of God's willingness to meet us where we are. Jesus understands our struggles, our pain, and our loneliness because He lived it. He knows what it's like to be tired, misunderstood, and rejected. His love bridges the gap between heaven and earth, offering us a way to experience true connection and belonging.

The Love That Gave All
The ultimate expression of Jesus' love is that it gave all. John 3:16 tells us, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Jesus' life, death, and resurrection are the greatest gifts we could ever receive. He offers us truth in a world full of lies, abundant life instead of mere existence, and forgiveness for every mistake. His love is complete, requiring nothing from us but acceptance.

Reflect and Respond
As we celebrate Christmas, let's pause to reflect on this incredible love. When was the last time you truly felt seen and loved? Jesus offers that to each of us, no matter where we are in life. His love is enough for the parent feeling overwhelmed, the student feeling invisible, and the individual feeling lost.

Practical Steps to Embrace Jesus' Love:

Pause and Reflect: Take a moment each day to acknowledge Jesus' presence in your life. Whether through prayer, meditation, or reading scripture, invite His love to fill your heart.

Reach Out: Just as Jesus showed up for us, consider how you can show up for others. A simple act of kindness or a listening ear can make a world of difference.

Accept Forgiveness: Let go of past mistakes and embrace the forgiveness Jesus offers. Allow His love to transform your heart and relationships.

A Prayer for Christmas
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus, whose love showed up, came down, and gave all. Help us to embrace this love fully and share it with those around us. May we find comfort in Your presence and strength in Your promises. In Jesus' name, Amen.

This Christmas, may you experience the depth of Jesus' love and let it transform your life. Whether you're a long-time believer or exploring faith for the first time, know that His love is for you. Embrace it, share it, and let it guide you into a new year filled with hope and joy.

As we approach the Christmas season, many of us are searching for a sense of calm and tranquility. This longing is not new; it echoes the ancient cries of those who awaited the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Let's explore how this timeless message can transform our lives today.

The Promise of Peace: Isaiah's Vision
In the book of Isaiah, we find a powerful prophecy about the coming of a child who would be called the Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6-7 describes a ruler whose reign would bring justice and righteousness, a promise that seemed almost too good to be true for a world filled with turmoil. Fast forward 700 years, and Jesus arrives, offering a peace that surpasses all understanding.

But what does this peace look like in our modern world? With violence, uncertainty, and personal struggles surrounding us, how can we experience the peace that Jesus promised?

Finding Peace in a Troubled World
The search for peace often leads us to temporary solutions—material possessions, status, or fleeting moments of happiness. Yet, these are mere shadows of the genuine peace that comes from knowing God. As the saying goes, "No God, no peace. Know God, know peace." This profound truth reminds us that true peace is found in a relationship with Jesus.
Jesus offers us a peace that is not dependent on our circumstances. In John 14:27, He assures us, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you." This peace is a gift, a constant presence that sustains us through life's storms.

Practical Steps to Embrace Peace

Cultivate an Intimate Relationship with God: Genuine peace stems from a deep connection with Jesus. Spend time in prayer, read the Bible, and listen for His voice. This relationship is not about checking off religious duties but about engaging in a meaningful dialogue with your Creator.

Trust in His Promises: When challenges arise, turn to God's Word for guidance and reassurance. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to present our requests to God with thanksgiving, promising that His peace will guard our hearts and minds.

Seek the Holy Spirit's Presence: The Holy Spirit is our constant companion, providing peace that transcends our understanding. Invite Him into your daily life, allowing His presence to calm your fears and guide your decisions.

A Call to Action: Embrace the Prince of Peace
As we celebrate Christmas, let's remember that Jesus came to reconcile us with God, offering a peace that is eternal. This season, take intentional steps to deepen your relationship with Him. Reflect on the areas of your life where you need His peace and invite Him to transform your heart.

A Prayer for Peace
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus, the Prince of Peace, into our world. Help us to embrace the peace He offers, trusting in Your promises and seeking Your presence daily. May we find comfort and strength in our relationship with You, experiencing the true joy of this Christmas season. Amen.

This Christmas, may you discover the profound peace that only Jesus can provide, a peace that endures through every storm and fills your heart with hope and joy.

We've all been there, striving for that picture-perfect moment. But what if true joy isn't about creating the perfect scene, but about receiving a gift that's already been given?

The Quest for Joy
Picture this: a crowded photo studio, families packed in tight, the air thick with anticipation and the smell of diaper bags. My family and I were there, decked out in our football jerseys, determined to capture the perfect Christmas photo. But after 45 minutes of waiting, the kids were melting down, and chaos reigned. It took 17 takes to get one decent photo where everyone was looking in the same direction. That photo, sent out with our Christmas letter, told a bigger story than I realized. It was a snapshot of our attempts to manufacture joy while feeling empty inside.

Joy is Not What We Create
In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we often exhaust ourselves trying to create joyful moments. But what if joy isn't something we manufacture? What if it's something we receive? The Bible tells us in Luke 2:10-11 that the angel announced to the shepherds, "I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord."

This message reveals a profound truth: joy is not what we create; it's who we receive. Just like my father stepping in to buy me the bike I couldn't afford, God steps into our lives, offering us a joy we could never earn on our own. Jesus is that gift, the Savior who brings joy not because of our circumstances, but because of His presence.

Stop Creating, Start Receiving
So, how do we embrace this joy? First, we need to stop trying to create it and start receiving it. The shepherds didn't produce joy; they received the joyful news. They were ordinary people, overlooked and undervalued, yet God chose them to receive the greatest news of all. This Christmas, let's stop striving for perfection and simply be present, receiving the joy that Jesus offers.

Share the Joy
Once we've received this joy, it's time to share it. The shepherds couldn't keep the good news to themselves. They spread the word, and all who heard it were amazed. Real joy demands communication. In a world where depression thrives in isolation, joy multiplies in community. This week, reach out to someone you haven't spoken to in a while. Share what Jesus has done for you, even if it's just a sentence. Joy shared is joy multiplied.

Choose Joy Now
Finally, let's choose joy now. The Apostle Paul, writing from prison, urged us to "Rejoice in the Lord always" (Philippians 4:4). This isn't about false positivity; it's about defiant faith. We can choose joy even when circumstances are tough because we know who holds tomorrow. Psalm 118:24 reminds us, "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Not tomorrow, but today, in the midst of our mess.

A Call to Action
This Christmas, stop trying to manufacture joy. Instead, receive the gift of Jesus, share it with others, and choose joy in every moment. Let the true spirit of Christmas fill your heart and transform your life.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come to You weary from trying to create joy on our own. Help us to receive the joy that only You can give. Fill our hearts with Your presence, and let us share this joy with those around us. Teach us to choose joy every day, knowing that You are with us in every moment. In Jesus' name, Amen.

As we approach the Christmas season, many of us find ourselves caught in the hustle and bustle, yet feeling strangely isolated. This paradox of being "home but not alone" is a common experience, especially during the holidays. But what if this solitude is an invitation to discover something deeper?

The Silence Before the Savior
Imagine living in a time when God seemed silent for 400 years. This was the reality for the Israelites before the birth of Jesus. Despite being in the Promised Land, they felt abandoned, much like Kevin McAllister in the movie "Home Alone." Yet, even in this silence, God was preparing to break through with a message of hope.

In the darkest hours, God sent a great light. Isaiah 9:2 tells us, "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light." This prophecy, fulfilled in Jesus, reminds us that God’s presence is often revealed in our darkest moments.

Why Solitude Matters
Solitude can feel daunting, but it’s in these quiet moments that we can hear God most clearly. Deuteronomy 31:6 encourages us, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." This promise assures us that we are never truly alone.

Jesus left His heavenly home to ensure we would never be spiritually alone. Galatians 4:4-7 explains that through Jesus, we are adopted into God’s family, making us heirs to His promises. This means that even when we feel isolated, we are part of a divine family with God as our eternal companion.

Practical Steps to Embrace Solitude

Create Space for Silence: Set aside a few minutes each day to sit quietly and listen for God’s voice. This could be during your morning coffee or a walk in nature.

Reflect on Scripture: Use passages like John 14:1-4 to remind yourself of God’s promises. Meditate on the assurance that Jesus is preparing a place for you.

Seek Community: While solitude is important, so is community. Engage with others who are also seeking to grow spiritually. Share your experiences and encourage one another.

A Call to Action
As we prepare for Christmas, let’s embrace the solitude as an opportunity to deepen our relationship with God. Consider how you can make space for His presence in your life. Whether it’s through prayer, reading the Bible, or simply being still, take a step towards experiencing the fullness of His love.

A Prayer for Presence
Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise that we are never alone. Help us to find peace in solitude and to hear Your voice in the quiet moments. As we approach this Christmas season, may we be reminded of Your eternal presence and the light You bring into our lives. Amen.

In this season of reflection, remember that Jesus left His home so that we would never be alone. Let this truth guide you as you seek to grow closer to God and find comfort in His everlasting presence.

Whether it's a new hobby, a job, or a resolution, the initial thrill can be invigorating. But how often do we find ourselves struggling to see things through to the end? This challenge isn't new. Even in biblical times, the principle of endurance was crucial, as demonstrated by Jesus and the Apostle Paul.

Today, let's explore how we can "Lead Like Jesus" by embracing endurance in our spiritual journey.

Jesus: The Ultimate Example of Endurance
Jesus' life was a testament to starting strong and finishing faithfully. He didn't just begin His ministry with power; He completed it with purpose. From His baptism to His final words on the cross, "It is finished," Jesus exemplified endurance. His journey teaches us that true transformation in our lives, relationships, and callings comes from enduring to the end.

The Apostle Paul echoed this sentiment. In 2 Timothy 4:6-8, Paul reflects on his life, saying, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Paul understood that endurance was not just about starting well but finishing faithfully. His life challenges us to fuel our passion with purpose and remain consistent, even when it's inconvenient.

Fuel Your Passion with Purpose
What drives you to get up every morning? Is it a fleeting passion or a deeper purpose? Paul teaches us that purpose makes sacrifice worthwhile. Passion without purpose is just emotion, and emotions can fade. But when we align our passion with God's purpose, we find the strength to endure.

Consider what God has called you to be, do, and go. When your passion aligns with your purpose, you can face any challenge with resilience. As Paul urged in Romans 12:1, present your life as a living sacrifice, driven by a purpose that transcends temporary emotions.

Be Consistent When It's Not Convenient
Consistency is more powerful than intensity. It's easy to start with enthusiasm, but true endurance requires showing up every day, even when it's tough. Jesus taught that faithfulness in small things leads to greater responsibilities (Luke 16:10). Our private discipline determines our public impact.

In a world that celebrates intensity, remember that God values consistency. He sees what others don't celebrate. Your daily commitment to prayer, Bible reading, and serving others may not always be noticed, but it builds a foundation for lasting spiritual growth.

Fight the Right Fight
Not every battle is ours to fight. Paul reminds us to focus on the good fight—the one that advances God's kingdom. In Ephesians 6:12, he emphasizes that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces. Choose your battles wisely, focusing on those that align with God's mission.

Lead with the End in Mind
Finishers don't just start well; they stay faithful. But what if I told you that God has set you apart for something extraordinary?

This is the essence of consecration—being set apart for a divine purpose. Let's explore how focused faith can help us fulfill our God-given mission.

Finding Your Purpose: A Journey of Discovery
In John 8:12-14, Jesus declares, "I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." Jesus knew His purpose and lived it out with unwavering focus. Similarly, God has a unique mission for each of us. But how do we discover it?

First, we must stop living reactively, constantly putting out fires and trying to please everyone. Ephesians 5:17 urges us to "understand what the Lord's will is." This means being proactive in seeking God's direction for our lives. At City United, we offer opportunities to discover your spiritual gifts and understand how God has uniquely wired you. Knowing your purpose is the first step toward living it out loud.

Ordering Your Priorities: Seek First the Kingdom
Once you've identified your purpose, it's crucial to order your priorities. Matthew 6:33 reminds us to "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness." This means passionately pursuing God's kingdom above all else. It's easy to get caught up in career ambitions or personal goals, but Jesus calls us to prioritize His kingdom.

Consider the story of Jesus and Lazarus in John 11. Despite the urgency of Lazarus's illness, Jesus stayed where He was for two more days, operating on His Father's timeline. This teaches us that what seems urgent to us may not be as important in God's grand scheme. We must choose the best over the good, focusing on what truly aligns with God's purpose for our lives.

Creating a Plan: Balancing Life with Purpose
To accomplish God's calling, we need a plan. Luke 2:52 shows us that Jesus grew in wisdom, stature, and favor with God and people. This balanced growth is a model for us. We must nurture our mind, body, soul, and relationships to live a well-rounded life.
Running with direction, as Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 9:26, means having a clear plan and purpose. Moses's prayer in Psalm 90:12, "Teach us to number our days carefully," encourages us to align our calendar with our priorities. Your schedule reveals what you truly value, so make sure it reflects your commitment to God's calling.

Practical Takeaways: Living Out Your Calling

Discover Your Purpose: Attend a spiritual gifts class to understand how God has uniquely equipped you.

Prioritize God's Kingdom: Evaluate your daily activities and ensure they align with seeking God's kingdom first.

Create a Balanced Plan: Develop a plan that nurtures your mind, body, soul, and relationships, ensuring you grow in all areas of life.

Call-to-Action: Embrace Your Unique Calling
You have one life, one calling, and one purpose. Embrace it with focused faith. Find a community that will hold you accountable, ask the hard questions, and celebrate your breakthroughs. Remember, when you know where you're going, distractions lose their power.

A Prayer for Purpose
Heavenly Father, thank You for setting us apart for Your divine purpose. Help us to discover our unique calling and live it out with focused faith. Guide us to prioritize Your kingdom above all else and create a balanced plan for our lives. Surround us with a community that encourages and holds us accountable. May we glorify You in all we do. In Jesus' name, Amen.

As you go about your week, remember that God has a special plan for you. Stay focused on your purpose and serve Him wholeheartedly. May God bless you abundantly.

In our fast-paced world, it's easy to overlook the subtle ways God provides for us, especially when we're caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life. But what if the key to experiencing God's miracles lies in the small, seemingly insignificant moments?

The Miracle of the Loaves and Fish: A Lesson in Faith

Let's take a journey back to a familiar biblical story found in Mark 6:32-44, where Jesus performs the miracle of feeding 5,000 people with just five loaves and two fish. This story is more than just a miraculous event; it's a profound lesson in faith and dependence on God. When Jesus saw the large crowd, he had compassion on them, recognizing their need for both physical and spiritual nourishment. Instead of sending them away, he challenged his disciples to feed them, prompting them to rely on God's provision.

The disciples initially saw the problem as insurmountable, calculating the cost and logistics of feeding such a large crowd. But Jesus demonstrated that when we place our trust in God, even the smallest offerings can be multiplied beyond our imagination. By blessing the loaves and fish, Jesus showed that little is much when God is in it.

Embracing Our Role in God's Plan

In our own lives, we often face challenges that seem too big to handle. Whether it's a career setback, a strained relationship, or a financial struggle, the temptation is to minimize, deflect, or calculate the impossibility of the situation. But what if, like the disciples, we took inventory of what we have and offered it to God?

Consider the story of a man who, after losing his job, found himself at a crossroads. Instead of succumbing to despair, he asked God, "What would you have me do?" This simple question opened the door to unexpected opportunities, leading him to a new career path that he never imagined. By accepting our part in God's plan and taking action, we activate our faith and invite God to work through us.

Steps to Experience a Breakthrough

1. Admit Your Need: Be honest with God about your struggles and ask for His guidance. He knows your heart and is ready to provide.

2. Accept Your Role: Take inventory of your skills, resources, and relationships. Offer them to God and trust Him to use them for His glory.

3. Activate Your Faith: Step out in faith, even when the path isn't clear. God often works through our willingness to act.

4. Anticipate the Miracle: Expect God to multiply what you have. Trust that He will provide abundantly, often in ways you least expect.

When Was the Last Time You Trusted God with the Little Things?

Reflect on your own life. Are there areas where you need to trust God more fully? Perhaps it's time to pause and listen for His guidance, to offer what you have, and to anticipate His provision. Remember, God delights in using ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.

A Prayer for Trust and Provision

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your constant provision and love. Help us to trust You with the little things in our lives, knowing that You can multiply them for Your glory. Teach us to depend on You fully and to embrace our role in Your plan. May we always anticipate Your miracles with faith and gratitude. In Jesus' name, Amen.

By embracing these principles, we can lead like Jesus, trusting God for breakthroughs in our lives. Whether you're a regular churchgoer or someone exploring faith, remember that God is always at work, ready to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.

You're not alone. In our fast-paced world, the idea of rest often feels like a luxury rather than a necessity. But what if rest is actually a divine command, woven into the very fabric of creation? Let's explore how embracing God's design for rest can transform your life.

Jesus' Invitation to Rest

Imagine being one of Jesus' disciples, returning from a whirlwind of ministry activities—teaching, healing, and spreading the good news. Exhausted, you gather around Jesus, expecting perhaps a pep talk to keep pushing forward. Instead, Jesus offers a surprising command: "Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while" (Mark 6:31). This wasn't just a suggestion; it was a directive to pause and recharge.

Jesus understood that leadership and service are demanding. He knew that without rest, fatigue would overshadow faith. This principle is as relevant today as it was then. When was the last time you truly paused to listen for God in the quiet moments?

The Rhythm of Work and Rest

From the very beginning, God modeled a rhythm of work and rest. After creating the universe, He paused, not out of exhaustion, but to establish a pattern for us. Genesis 2:2-3 tells us that God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, setting it apart as a day of rest. This wasn't just a day off; it was a sacred pause, a time to reflect and renew.

Work is good and God-ordained, bringing purpose and fulfillment. Yet, without rest, it becomes unsustainable. The disciples experienced this firsthand, so busy they didn't even have time to eat. Sound familiar? It's a reminder that rest is not a reward for hard work; it's a requirement for sustaining it.

Creating Space for Renewal

Psalm 23 beautifully illustrates the shepherd's care, leading us to green pastures and quiet waters. This imagery invites us to create space for physical and emotional renewal. Your body needs sleep, your emotions need laughter, and your mind needs quiet. These aren't luxuries; they're necessities.

Set boundaries to protect your rest. Schedule it like any other important appointment. Guard your sleep, plan time with loved ones, and learn to say no to commitments that crowd out renewal. Trust that when you lie down, you're declaring that God is in control, not you.

Practical Steps to Embrace Rest

Recognize God's Design: Understand that rest is part of God's plan for you. It's not optional; it's essential.

Embrace the Rhythm: Balance work with intentional rest. Reflect on your current schedule and identify areas where you can incorporate rest.

Set Boundaries: Protect your time for renewal. Prioritize sleep, family, and personal time with God.

Trust in God's Provision: Exchange your pressure for God's peace. Surrender control and allow God to refresh and recreate you.

A Call to Action

This week, take a step back and evaluate your life. Are you leading from a place of overflow or emptiness? Consider how you can incorporate rest into your routine, trusting that God will provide the strength and peace you need.

A Prayer for Rest

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of rest. Help us to embrace Your design for renewal, trusting in Your provision and peace. May we find true rest in You, leading from a place of abundance rather than exhaustion. Guide us to green pastures and quiet waters, renewing our strength for the journey ahead. In Jesus' name, Amen.

By embracing rest as a divine requirement, not just a reward, we align ourselves with God's rhythm, finding strength and peace in His presence. Will you answer His call to rest?

You read it, reread it, and suddenly, your day is overshadowed by a knot in your stomach. What do you do next? Screenshot it, send it to friends, and ask, "Am I overreacting?" Before you know it, you're caught in a whirlwind of assumptions and avoidance. But what if there was a better way to handle conflict, one that builds relationships rather than burns them?

Jesus' Blueprint for Conflict Resolution

In our fast-paced world, we've mastered the art of either exploding in anger or disappearing into silence when faced with conflict. But Jesus offers us a different path, one that leads to reconciliation and spiritual growth. In Matthew 18:15-17, Jesus provides a clear, three-step process for resolving conflicts within the Christian community.

Go Directly: Jesus instructs us to address the issue directly with the person involved. This means having the courage to speak up and express your feelings honestly. It's about choosing reconciliation over revenge, and understanding that the goal is to win back your brother or sister, not to win an argument.

Speak the Truth in Love: Ephesians 4:15 reminds us to speak the truth in love. This involves listening well and being open to understanding the other person's perspective. It's about attacking the problem, not the person, and ensuring that love guides our words and actions.

Aim for Forgiveness: Ultimately, the goal is forgiveness. Ephesians 4:32 encourages us to be kind and compassionate, forgiving one another just as God forgave us. True forgiveness means not bringing up the issue again, not discussing it with others, and not allowing it to hinder the relationship moving forward.

Why Reconciliation Matters

Conflict is inevitable, but how we handle it can either strengthen or weaken our relationships. Jesus emphasizes that reconciliation should take precedence over worship. In Matthew 5:23-24, He tells us to first reconcile with our brother or sister before offering our gift at the altar. This highlights the importance of maintaining a pure relationship with God, which is reflected in our relationships with others.

Practical Steps to Embrace Conflict Like Jesus

To help you navigate conflicts, consider the PEACE method:

Prepare Your Heart: Pray and, if necessary, fast before addressing the conflict. Approach the situation with humility and a readiness to listen.

Empathize with Their Perspective: Be present in the conversation and genuinely try to understand the other person's point of view.

Attack the Problem, Not the Person: Focus on resolving the issue, not on blaming the individual.

Create a Win-Win Solution: Aim for a resolution that benefits both parties and strengthens the relationship.

Establish Accountability: Set clear expectations for moving forward and ensure both parties are committed to maintaining peace.

A Call to Action

As you reflect on this message, consider any unresolved conflicts in your life. Write down the name of the person you need to reconcile with, schedule a time to meet, and pray for the courage to approach the situation with love and grace. Remember, conflict is not something to fear but an opportunity for growth and deeper connection.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us a better way to handle conflict through Your Son, Jesus. Help us to lead like Him, embracing reconciliation and fostering spiritual growth in our relationships. Give us the courage to face conflicts head-on, with love and humility. May we always seek to restore and build, rather than retreat and destroy. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to overlook the quiet moments where God speaks to us. This week, we explored how Jesus modeled leadership through prayer, solitude, and service, offering us a blueprint for spiritual growth and authentic living.

Jesus’ Leadership: A Lesson in Solitude

In today’s culture, leadership often means climbing the ladder and seeking recognition. But Jesus flipped this notion on its head. He chose relationships over platforms, surrender over control, and love over ambition. His leadership was rooted in prayer and solitude, as seen in Mark 1:35 and Matthew 14:23, where Jesus withdrew to pray after busy days of ministry. These moments of solitude were not just about rest but about reconnecting with God’s purpose.

When was the last time you paused to listen for God? Jesus’ example teaches us that solitude is not a luxury but a necessity for hearing God’s voice and aligning with His will. It’s in these quiet moments that we find clarity and strength to serve others authentically.

The Lord’s Prayer: A Model for Spiritual Growth

The disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, and He responded with what we know as the Lord’s Prayer. This prayer is more than a ritual; it’s a guide for our spiritual journey. It begins with praise, acknowledging God as our holy Father, and moves into repentance, asking for forgiveness and the grace to forgive others.

Repentance is a turning point—a 180-degree shift back to God. It’s challenging to admit our wrongs, but it’s essential for spiritual growth. Are there areas in your life where you need to seek forgiveness or extend it to others? Jesus’ call to forgive is a reminder that holding onto grudges only harms us.

Pray Up Before You Show Up: The Power of Persistent Prayer

Prayer is not just a one-time event but a lifestyle. Jesus demonstrated the importance of praying fervently, boldly, and always. In Luke 18:1, He encouraged His followers to pray persistently and not give up. This persistence is about maintaining an attitude of prayer throughout our day, whether we’re facing a crisis or celebrating a victory.

Consider starting your day with prayer, seeking God’s guidance before you face the world. As D.L. Moody wisely said, “We ought to see the face of God every morning before we see the face of man.” This practice not only prepares us for the challenges ahead but also transforms our hearts and minds.

Practical Steps for Embracing Prayer

Set Aside Time for Solitude: Begin and end your day with prayer, just as Jesus did. Find a quiet place free from distractions to connect with God.

Use the Lord’s Prayer as a Guide: Break it down into praise, repentance, asking, and yielding to God’s will. Let it shape your daily conversations with God.

Pray Persistently: Develop a habit of praying throughout your day. Whether you’re at work, school, or home, keep an open line of communication with God.

Conclusion: A Call to Action

Prayer is the foundation of our faith and the key to spiritual growth. It’s not the least we can do; it’s the best. As we embrace solitude and persistent prayer, we align ourselves with God’s purpose and become authentic leaders in our communities.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of prayer and the example of Jesus. Help us to seek Your face each day, to listen for Your voice in solitude, and to serve others with love and humility. Transform our hearts and guide us in Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

By integrating these practices into our lives, we not only grow closer to God but also become vessels of His love and grace in the world. Let’s commit to praying up before we show up, making a difference in our lives and the lives of those around us.

In a culture that often prioritizes personal ambition and image over genuine relationships, Jesus offers a radically different approach. He calls us to lead from a place of love, surrender, and authenticity. But how do we embody this in our daily lives?

The Heart of Leadership: Dedication and Integrity

In the Gospel of John, chapter 8, we find a powerful story that illustrates Jesus' approach to leadership. The religious leaders brought a woman caught in adultery to Jesus, not out of a desire for justice, but to trap Him. They used her as a pawn in their political game, highlighting a common pitfall in leadership—using others for personal gain.

Jesus, however, turned the situation on its head. Instead of condemning the woman, He challenged her accusers, saying, "The one without sin among you should be the first to throw a stone at her." This moment of profound wisdom shifted the focus from the woman's sin to the hypocrisy of her accusers. Jesus demonstrated that true leadership is about protecting the vulnerable and leading with integrity.

Living Authentically: Aligning Private and Public Lives

One of the key takeaways from this story is the importance of aligning our private lives with our public message. Jesus' authority in public came from His private devotion to God. Before facing the day's challenges, He spent time in prayer on the Mount of Olives. This private dedication fueled His public ministry and gave weight to His teachings.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to live with the same integrity. Our actions in private should confirm what we say in public. This means examining our motives, acknowledging our own shortcomings, and creating space for self-reflection. When we lead with authenticity, we create environments where others can encounter hope and transformation.

Practical Steps to Lead Like Jesus

1. In today's fast-paced world, where success is often measured by followers rather than faithfulness, it's easy to lose sight of what genuine leadership looks like. But what if we could learn to lead like Jesus, with love and service at the core?

The Heart of Leadership: Love First, Lead Second

In a culture that often prioritizes ego and ambition, Jesus offers a radically different approach. In Mark 10:43-45, He teaches that true greatness comes from serving others, not from seeking to be served. This principle challenges us to examine our motives: Are we leading for God's glory or our own recognition?

Jesus' encounter with the Pharisees in Matthew 22:34-40 highlights the importance of pure motivation. When asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus responds with a call to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. This isn't just a leadership technique; it's a relational foundation that transforms how we influence others.

Confronting Our Motives: A Path to Authentic Leadership

To lead like Jesus, we must first confront our hidden agendas. Are we seeking recognition, control, or approval? The Apostle Paul reminds us in Galatians 1:10 that our aim should be to please God, not people. When our motives are pure, leadership becomes lighter and more joyful.

Consider starting each day with a simple question: "Am I leading for God's glory or my own recognition?" Reflect on your actions in the evening: "Did my leadership decisions honor God today?" These questions help anchor our hearts in God's love and keep our motives aligned with His purpose.

Activating Love in Leadership: Serving Others with Intentionality

Jesus' command to love our neighbors as ourselves calls us to transform leadership into service. This means valuing people over platforms and asking, "How can I serve you?" rather than "What can you do for me?" Philippians 2:3 encourages us to consider others more important than ourselves, fostering a culture of humility and service.

In practical terms, this might mean using social media to encourage rather than impress, creating safe spaces for those struggling with mental health, or responding to conflict with redemptive love. By applying these principles, we can lead with love in a way that reflects Jesus' heart.

A Call to Action: Lead with Love

As you reflect on your leadership journey, consider writing down your top three motivations. Share them with a trusted friend or mentor and invite them to pray with you. Remember, when love drives our leadership, everything changes.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help us to lead like Jesus, with love and service at the forefront of our hearts. Purify our motives and guide us to serve others with humility and grace. May our leadership reflect Your love and bring glory to Your name. Amen.

By embracing these principles, we can transform our leadership from performance-driven to purpose-driven, impacting the world around us with the love of Christ.

You're not alone. Fear is a common emotion that can paralyze us, keeping us from living the life God intended. But here's the good news: Jesus offers us a way out. This Easter, let's explore how the resurrection of Jesus can help us say goodbye to fear and embrace a life filled with peace and purpose.

The resurrection of Jesus is more than just a historical event; it's an invitation to break free from the chains of fear. In John 20, we find the disciples hiding behind locked doors, paralyzed by fear. Yet, Jesus breaks through their barriers, offering them peace and a renewed purpose. This same peace is available to you today. Jesus stands at the locked doors of your heart, ready to replace your fear with His peace, your confusion with His purpose, and your weakness with His power.

Understanding Fear and Its Impact

Fear creates separation. It isolates us from others and stops us from taking action. Just like the disciples, we often find ourselves hiding behind locked doors, afraid to step out in faith. But fear doesn't have to control us. The Bible reminds us in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound judgment.

Jesus breaks through our fear. He offers us peace instead of fear. When Jesus appeared to the disciples, He didn't just offer a casual greeting. He transferred His peace into their fearful hearts. This peace is not just for comfort; it's for a greater purpose. Jesus empowers us to step into the mission He has for us, just as He did with the disciples.

Embracing the Peace of Jesus

So, how can you embrace the peace of Jesus in your life? Here are some steps to consider:

Acknowledge Your Fear: Recognize the fears that are holding you back. Whether it's fear of failure, fear of the future, or fear of not being enough, bring these fears to Jesus.

Invite Jesus In: Just as Jesus broke through the locked doors to reach the disciples, invite Him into the locked areas of your heart. Ask Him to replace your fear with His peace.

Seek the Holy Spirit: Jesus equips us with power through the Holy Spirit. Pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you with boldness and courage to overcome your fears.

Step into Your Purpose: With Jesus' peace and power, step into the purpose He has for you. Don't let fear hold you back from fulfilling God's calling on your life.

Conclusion

The point is, Jesus wants to replace your fear with His peace. What will you do this week to embrace the peace of Jesus? Will you invite Him into the locked areas of your heart and allow Him to transform your fear into faith? Remember, without taking this step, you might miss out on the life Jesus wants for you.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, thank You for offering us peace in the midst of our fears. Help us to invite You into the locked areas of our hearts and replace our fear with Your peace. Fill us with the Holy Spirit, empowering us to step into the purpose You have for us. May we live boldly, knowing that You are greater than all our fears. Amen.

This question has been asked for over 2,000 years, and it remains just as relevant today. As we reflect on Palm Sunday, we are reminded of the moment when Jesus entered Jerusalem, hailed as a king. But who is this man that we celebrate? Let's explore this question together and uncover the truth about Jesus as Emmanuel, Messiah, and our eternal king.

On that first Palm Sunday, the crowds welcomed Jesus with palm branches, shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel." Yet, just days later, the same crowd would turn against him. This shift in perception prompts us to ask: Who is Jesus to us today? Is he merely a historical figure, or is he the living Savior who transforms our lives?

Understanding Jesus: Prophet, Teacher, Savior

Jesus as Prophet: Throughout his ministry, Jesus was recognized as a prophet. People revered him for his wisdom and miraculous signs, like feeding the 5,000 and raising Lazarus from the dead. These acts pointed to his divine authority and fulfillment of ancient prophecies.

Jesus as Teacher: Jesus' teachings were revolutionary. He spoke with authority, offering profound truths that astonished his listeners. His Sermon on the Mount, for example, challenged people to build their lives on a solid foundation of truth.

Jesus as Savior: Jesus' journey to the cross was not just a story of suffering but a testament to his love for humanity. He bore our sins and conquered death, rising from the grave to offer us eternal life. This victory over sin and death is the cornerstone of our faith.

Jesus, God with Us

Jesus is not just a figure from the past; he is Emmanuel, "God with us." He stepped into history, lived among us, and revealed the truth of God's love. His life, death, and resurrection invite us to experience a personal relationship with him.

Taking the Next Step

So, who do you say Jesus is? This question is not just for theologians or historians; it's for each of us. If Jesus is truly the Son of God, then he is the only way to the Father. This realization calls us to respond, not just with our minds but with our hearts.

Consider this: What steps can you take this week to deepen your relationship with Jesus? Perhaps it's spending more time in prayer, reading the Bible, or reaching out to someone in need. Whatever it is, let it be a step toward embracing Jesus as your eternal king.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, thank you for revealing yourself to us as Emmanuel, Messiah, and our eternal king. You're not alone. Many of us struggle with the allure of worldliness, but there's hope. The book of James offers a powerful solution: total submission to God. This isn't just about hearing the Word; it's about living it out loud. In James 4, we find a roadmap to resist worldliness and embrace a life fully devoted to God. Let's explore how we can turn down the noise of the world and turn up the volume of our faith.

Understanding Worldliness and Its Impact

Worldliness is more than just a distraction; it's the source of conflicts and wars within us and among us. James 4:1-3 highlights that our desires and passions often lead to fights and quarrels. We might blame others or our circumstances, but James calls us to look inward. The real battle is within us, fueled by our desires for material things and our tendency to pray with wrong motives. It's a call to examine our hearts and recognize that our worldliness makes us enemies of God.

The Power of Humility

The antidote to worldliness is humility. James 4:7-10 provides a clear prescription: submit to God, resist the devil, and draw near to Him. This isn't a passive act; it's an active choice to surrender our will to God. By cleansing our hands and purifying our hearts, we align ourselves with God's will. It's about feeling genuine remorse for our wrongdoings and seeking a closer relationship with God. When we humble ourselves, we find a storehouse of grace waiting for us.

Avoiding Criticism and Judgment

Criticism and judgment are byproducts of worldliness. James 4:11-12 warns us against speaking against our brothers and sisters. When we judge others, we play God, forgetting that only He is the true judge. Instead of tearing others down, we're called to build them up. It's a reminder to approach others with compassion and grace, reflecting the love of Christ in our interactions.

Letting Go of Pride

Pride is the outward sign of worldliness, leading us to believe we're the masters of our fate. James 4:13-16 challenges this notion, reminding us that our lives are but a vapor. We have no control over the future, and our plans should always be submitted to God's will. By acknowledging that we are not the captains of our souls, we open ourselves to God's guidance and wisdom.

Taking the Next Step

The message is clear: total submission to God is the cure for worldliness. But knowing this isn't enough. We must act on it. This week, consider these questions: How do you view others? Are you judgmental or compassionate? Do you know the right thing to do according to God's Word, and are you doing it? Reflect on these questions and take steps to align your life with God's will.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You, acknowledging our struggles with worldliness. Help us to submit our lives fully to You, resisting the temptations of the world. Grant us the humility to draw near to You and the grace to love others as You love us. May our lives reflect Your will in all we do. In Jesus' name, Amen.

You're not alone. Many of us, even those in the Bible, have felt this way. But what if I told you that the key to turning up the volume in your life is found in the book of James? James 1:22 tells us to "be doers of the word and not hearers only." This means that faith isn't just something we believe; it's something we actively do. It's about living out loud and making a real impact in our communities, schools, families, and workplaces. So, how do we do this? Let's dive into the wisdom that James offers and discover how we can live our faith out loud.

The Source of True Wisdom

The main point of the sermon is clear: Applying God's wisdom to our lives will transform us. James 3:13-18 contrasts worldly wisdom with God's wisdom. Worldly wisdom, characterized by envy and selfish ambition, leads to disorder and chaos. In contrast, God's wisdom is pure, peace-loving, gentle, and full of mercy. It's about living a life that reflects Jesus, not just talking about Him.

Living Out God's Wisdom

Demonstrate Wisdom Through Actions: Wisdom isn't just about what you know; it's about how you live. James encourages us to show our wisdom through good conduct and gentleness. This means being kind, patient, and putting others before ourselves. It's about being a living example of Jesus' love.

Avoid Worldly Wisdom: James warns us against bitter envy and selfish ambition. These are not from God and lead to chaos. Instead, we should focus on being content with what God has given us and trusting Him to provide what we need.

Seek God's Wisdom: If you lack wisdom, ask God. If you're like most of us, the answer is probably yes. Our words have incredible power, and sometimes, they can cause more harm than we intend. But what if I told you that the key to controlling your tongue lies not in your mouth, but in your heart? This week, we dove into the book of James, specifically chapter three, to explore how our faith can be lived out loud through the way we speak. The main takeaway? The heart is the key to right speech.

James doesn't mince words when he talks about the tongue. He describes it as a small part of the body that can boast great things, much like a tiny spark that can set a whole forest ablaze. It's a powerful reminder that our words can either build up or tear down. But here's the good news: while we can't tame the tongue on our own, God can transform our hearts, and in doing so, He can tame our tongues.

The Power of Words

James uses vivid imagery to illustrate the power of the tongue. He compares it to a bit in a horse's mouth or a rudder on a ship—small, yet capable of steering something much larger. Our words can guide the direction of our lives and the lives of those around us. But they can also be like a fire, capable of causing destruction if not controlled.

The Bible tells us that no one can tame the tongue on their own. It's like trying to tame a wild animal. But here's where the heart comes in. Jesus said in Matthew 12:34, "For the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart." If our hearts are filled with grace, our words will reflect that grace.

Taking Control

So, how do we take control of our speech? It starts with surrendering our hearts to Jesus. When He is the Lord of our hearts, He becomes the Lord of our lips as well. This isn't about self-control; it's about letting God take control. Here are a few steps you can take:

Check Your Autopilot: What comes out of your mouth when you're stressed or upset? Take note of your automatic responses and ask God to help you change them.

Surrender Your Speech: Have you given control of your words to Jesus? Pray for His guidance and ask Him to help you speak words that build up rather than tear down.

Let Go of Self-Control: Stop trying to control your tongue on your own. Instead, ask God to transform your heart and, in turn, your speech.

Moving Forward

The point is clear: our words matter, and they reveal the state of our hearts. So, what will you do this week to ensure your heart is in the right place? Will you take the steps to surrender your speech to God? Remember, without taking this step, you might miss out on the transformation Jesus wants for you.

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for the gift of speech and the power it holds. Help us to surrender our hearts to You so that our words may reflect Your love and grace. Transform our hearts, Lord, and tame our tongues. May our speech always bring glory to You and build up those around us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

It's a question that can lead to deep reflection and personal growth. In our recent sermon series, "Live Out Loud: Our Faith in Action," we've been diving into the Book of James, exploring how our faith should be more than just words—it should be a vibrant, active part of our lives. James 1:22 challenges us to be "doers of the word, and not hearers only," urging us to put our faith into action. So, how can you ensure your faith is alive and thriving?

Faith in Action: What Does It Look Like?

Acknowledge and Act: The first step is acknowledging that faith requires more than just words. James 2:14 asks, "What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works?" It's a call to move from belief to behavior. When you see someone in need, don't just offer words—take action. Whether it's praying for someone and actually following through or offering practical help, your actions speak volumes.

Respond with Compassion: Faith should naturally lead to compassionate actions. James reminds us that faith without works is dead. Look around you—there are countless opportunities to serve and show love. Whether it's volunteering at a local shelter, helping a neighbor, or participating in community outreach, your faith becomes alive when you respond to the needs of others.

Embrace Sacrifice: True faith often requires sacrifice. James uses the examples of Abraham and Rahab to illustrate this point. Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac and Rahab's risk in protecting Israel's spies show that faith sometimes means stepping out of your comfort zone. It might mean giving up time, resources, or even your reputation for the sake of righteousness.

Consistent Good Works: Faith isn't just about occasional acts of kindness; it's about developing a lifestyle of consistent good works. Galatians 6:9 encourages us not to grow weary in doing good. Your faith should be evident in your daily life, influencing how you interact with others and the choices you make.

Taking the Next Step

So, how can you put this into practice? Start by identifying one area where you can actively demonstrate your faith this week. Maybe it's volunteering for a community event, helping a friend in need, or simply being more intentional in your daily interactions. Remember, your actions can be a powerful testimony to those around you.

Conclusion

The question remains: Is your faith alive? It's not just about what you believe, but how you live it out. As you reflect on this, consider how you can make your faith more active and visible. What steps will you take this week to ensure your faith is not just words, but a living, breathing part of your life?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of faith. Help us to move beyond words and into action, showing your love and compassion to those around us. Give us the courage to step out of our comfort zones and make sacrifices for the sake of Your kingdom. May our lives be a testament to your grace and truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.

You’re not alone. Many of us have experienced favoritism, whether in our workplaces, schools, or even churches. But what if I told you that real faith, the kind that truly reflects Jesus, doesn’t play favorites? In our journey through the Book of James, we’re challenged to live out our faith in action, and today, we’re tackling the tough topic of favoritism. James 2:1-13 calls us to recognize and reject favoritism, urging us to embrace a faith that values every person equally. So, how do we move from a faith that judges to one that loves unconditionally?

James opens with a powerful statement: “Do not show favoritism as you hold onto the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.” This isn’t just a suggestion; it’s a call to action. Imagine two people walking into your church—one dressed in fine clothes and the other in worn-out attire. How do you respond? James warns us against making distinctions based on appearances, reminding us that such judgments are rooted in evil thoughts. Our natural tendency might be to favor those who seem more successful or influential, but James challenges us to see beyond the surface.

Favoritism isn’t just a social issue; it’s a heart issue. It begins in our hearts and manifests in our actions. James tells us that when we show favoritism, we’re acting as judges with evil thoughts, pushing God out of His rightful place. But here’s the good news: God doesn’t show favoritism. Acts 10:34 reminds us that in God’s eyes, we’re all equally valuable. So, how do we align our hearts with God’s perspective?

First, we need to confront our prejudices. Are we compromising our faith by judging others based on their appearance, status, or background? James calls us to repent and embrace God’s value system, which prioritizes faith, humility, and love over wealth and status. By adopting heaven’s perspective, we can begin to see people as God sees them—created in His image, with purpose and significance.

Next, we must restore biblical love. James emphasizes that love is God’s supreme command. We’re called to love our neighbors as ourselves, without distinction. When we show partiality, we sin. But when we love unconditionally, we reflect the heart of Jesus. Building a biblical community means recognizing that we all need Jesus and each other. It’s about creating an environment where everyone is valued and welcomed, regardless of their background.

Finally, we’re called to reflect grace and mercy. James reminds us that mercy triumphs over judgment. As recipients of God’s grace, we’re called to extend that same grace to others. This means actively showing mercy and grace daily, focusing on people’s progress rather than their perfection.

So, what’s the next step for you? Take time this week to examine your heart. Ask God to reveal any areas of favoritism or prejudice. Then, actively change how you treat others. Include those who might feel overlooked, and serve with humility and love. Remember, faith without works is dead. By focusing on God’s love instead of worldly standards, you’ll better reflect His grace to a world that desperately needs it.

As we conclude, consider this: What favoritism do you need to release? Is it based on race, social status, or other factors? Whatever it is, bring it before the Lord. Let’s build a community that rejects favoritism, embraces grace, and demonstrates Christ’s love consistently.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us without favoritism. Help us to see others through Your eyes and to love them as You do. Reveal any areas of prejudice in our hearts and give us the courage to change. May our actions reflect Your grace and mercy, and may we build a community that honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You’re not alone. Many of us struggle with the gap between what we hear in church and how we live our daily lives. The Book of James offers a powerful reminder: "Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves" (James 1:22). This call to action is more relevant than ever. In a world filled with distractions, how do we ensure that our faith is not just something we hear about on Sundays but something we live out every day?

The sermon series "Live Out Our Faith in Action" challenges us to take our faith off mute and live it out loud. The main point is clear: To live out the truth of God's word, we must live in God's word. This means more than just reading the Bible; it means letting it transform us from the inside out. So, how do we do this? How do we move from being mere listeners to active doers of the Word?

1. Be Quick to Listen, Slow to Speak, and Slow to Anger

James 1:19-20 gives us a practical starting point. Being quick to listen and slow to speak allows us to truly absorb God's word. It’s about more than just hearing; it’s about understanding and letting it take root in our hearts. When we’re slow to anger, we create space for God’s righteousness to work in us. This is the first step in living out our faith.

2. Practice What You Preach

James uses the analogy of a mirror to illustrate how we should respond to God's word. Just as a mirror shows us our physical appearance, the Bible reveals our spiritual condition. But what good is it if we walk away and forget what we’ve seen? True faith requires action. It’s about examining ourselves and making changes where needed. This is how we confirm the authenticity of our faith.

3. Share the Word through Actions

James 1:26-27 reminds us that true religion is not about rituals but about caring for others and keeping ourselves unstained by the world. Our faith should be evident in how we speak and serve others. It’s about being the hands and feet of Jesus in a world that desperately needs His love.

So, what’s your next step? How will you move from being a hearer to a doer of God’s word? Maybe it’s spending more time in personal Bible study, or perhaps it’s volunteering in your community. Whatever it is, take that step today. Remember, fresh is always better. Just like a fresh cheeseburger is more satisfying than a prepackaged one, a fresh encounter with God’s word is more nourishing than anything else.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word that guides and transforms us. You're not alone. Many of us struggle with this feeling, especially when life throws us curveballs. But what if I told you that these struggles are not just obstacles but opportunities for growth? The Book of James offers us a powerful perspective: our faith isn't just something we believe; it's something we do. It's time to turn up the volume of your faith and let it shine in every aspect of your life.

James, the younger half-brother of Jesus, wrote his letter to encourage Christians to live out their faith boldly. He challenges us to see our trials not as setbacks but as stepping stones for spiritual growth. In James 1:2-4, he says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance." This is a call to action, a call to transform today's struggles into tomorrow's strengths.

Recognizing Purpose in Trials

When life gets tough, it's easy to feel like everything is falling apart. But James encourages us to find joy in these moments. Why? Because trials produce a stronger faith, greater endurance, and deeper maturity. Think of it like an athlete pushing through pain to build muscle. The same principle applies to our spiritual lives. Trials stretch us, making us tougher and more resilient.

Activating Faith Through Prayer

James reminds us that human glory is temporary, but God's glory is eternal. Our trials are opportunities to focus on what truly matters. Instead of building our own kingdoms, we should invest in God's eternal kingdom. This perspective helps us endure challenges with hope and purpose.

Understanding the Spiritual World

It's crucial to differentiate between God's testing and Satan's tempting. God tests us to develop our character, while Satan tempts us to derail our faith. Recognize your temptation triggers and arm yourself with Scripture. Join a community or group for accountability and support. Don't let your trials become Satan's playground; make them God's training ground.

Embracing God's Transformation Process

Every good and perfect gift comes from God, who never changes. Our circumstances may shift, but God's faithfulness remains constant. During trials, we have a choice: will we trust God to guide us, or will we try to control everything ourselves? Embrace the opportunity to grow and let God transform you through your challenges.

As you reflect on these insights, consider this: How can you transform your current challenges into opportunities for growing in faith? What steps will you take this week to let your faith shine brighter? Remember, it's not just about getting through hard times; it's about growing through them. Today's struggles can become tomorrow's strengths.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the trials that shape and strengthen our faith. Help us to see them as opportunities for growth and to trust in your wisdom and guidance. May we embrace your transformation process and let our faith shine brightly in every aspect of our lives. In Jesus' name, Amen.

You’re not alone. Many of us grapple with this question, especially when it comes to our faith. At City United Church, we believe that each of us has a unique role in multiplying disciples and expanding God’s kingdom. This isn’t just a lofty goal; it’s a calling that Jesus himself gave us. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands us to "go and make disciples of all nations." This is a mission that requires all of us to step up and take action.

Our vision is clear: to transform New England by making disciples and planting churches. This vision drives everything we do because we believe that saturating our region with the gospel of Jesus Christ will create communities where people can find hope and purpose. But how do we get there? It starts with you. It starts with each of us taking personal responsibility to live as everyday missionaries in our everyday places.

The Call to Multiply

The main point of our recent sermon is simple yet profound: We must multiply disciples to expand the kingdom. This isn’t just about adding numbers; it’s about creating a culture of multiplication where everyone is focused on making disciples. Imagine if each of us reached out and equipped just one other person to grow in their faith. The ripple effect would be incredible.

Here’s how you can be part of this movement:

Proclaim Christ: Think about the circles you’re in—where you eat, work, shop, study, and play. Are you making Jesus known in these spaces? Evangelism isn’t just a gift; it’s a command. Take personal ownership of your platform and share the good news.

Warn Everyone: Life is short, and time is limited. We must live with a sense of urgency, knowing that every person we encounter has a soul that matters to God. Let’s not settle for complacency but instead be alert and ready to share the hope we have in Jesus.

Help Others Reach Their Full Potential: This is about mentoring and teaching. We’re called to raise up leaders who will lead others. Whether you’re a disciple, discipling, or a disciple maker, there’s a place for you in this journey. Ask yourself, what level are you on right now?

Work Together to Multiply the Kingdom: We can’t do this alone. It requires all of us working together for local, regional, and global impact. Whether it’s reaching our neighbors, partnering with other churches, or supporting missionaries, your involvement matters.

Taking the Next Step

So, what’s your next step in this journey of multiplication? Maybe it’s starting your personal multiplication journey, getting involved in a group, or sharing your transformation story. Perhaps it’s joining our weekly training sessions or funding the vision through generous giving. Whatever it is, know that your contribution is significant.

The point is, Jesus wants your whole heart. What will you do this week to give it to him? Without taking this step, you’ll miss out on what Jesus wants for you. Let’s not just be hearers of the word but doers. Let’s be generation builders who will change New England for God’s glory.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we ask for your guidance as we step into our roles as multipliers of your kingdom. Help us to be bold in proclaiming your name, urgent in sharing your message, and committed to helping others reach their full potential. May we work together to see your kingdom expand here, near, and far. Transform our hearts and use us for your glory. Amen.

A movement that starts with one person and reaches thousands? You might think, "That sounds amazing, but it won't happen for me." Yet, we serve the same God who parted the Red Sea, brought down the walls of Jericho, and raised Jesus from the dead. So, why do we doubt that God can use us to start a movement that impacts thousands? This is the heart of our message today: the power of multiplication through giving.

Understanding God's Multiplication Principle

The main point of our sermon is simple yet profound: When we understand God's multiplication principle, we see how giving our time, talents, treasures, and words can exponentially impact His kingdom. In Matthew 14:13-21, we find the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000. A little boy offered his five loaves and two fish, and Jesus multiplied it to feed thousands. This story teaches us that God can take what we offer, no matter how small, and multiply it beyond our imagination.

How You Can Multiply Your Impact

Start with What You Have: Just like the boy with the loaves and fish, begin with what you have. Whether it's your time, skills, resources, or words, offer them to God. You might think it's not enough, but in God's hands, it can become more than enough.

Engage in His Work: Be actively involved in what God is doing around you. Whether it's serving in your local church, helping a neighbor, or starting a small group, your involvement is crucial. Remember, Jesus asked His disciples to feed the crowd, and they obeyed, witnessing a miracle.

Obey Jesus' Commands: When Jesus asks you to do something, trust and obey. It might seem daunting, but obedience is key to seeing God's multiplication at work. The disciples distributed the food, and everyone was satisfied.

Watch God Bless the Gift: When you give with the right motives, God blesses it. The people not only ate but were fully satisfied. Your giving, when done with a heart that seeks to please God, will be blessed and multiplied.

Taking The Next Step

So, what can you do this week to start multiplying your impact? Evaluate how you're currently giving your time, talents, treasures, and words. Identify one area where you can increase your investment in God's kingdom. Maybe it's volunteering at church, starting a Bible study, or simply being more intentional with your words. Commit to regular, systematic giving through your local church and trust God's faithfulness to multiply your offering for His glory.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible privilege of being part of Your work. Help us to see the potential in what we have and to offer it to You with open hearts. Teach us to trust in Your multiplication, knowing that You can do far more than we can imagine. May our lives be a testament to Your power and love, impacting those around us for Your kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.

What if your daily routine isn't just a series of random events, but a divine assignment? At City United Church, we're exploring the idea that our community is not just where we go—it's where we're sent. This concept is rooted in the powerful prayer Jesus prayed in John 17, where He asked for our unity and collaboration to reach others. Imagine the impact we could have if we embraced our sent identity and lived with purpose in every interaction.

Embrace Your Sent Identity

You are not just a bystander in your community; you are a change agent. Jesus has placed you exactly where you are for a reason. Embracing your sent identity means recognizing that you have a spiritual responsibility in your physical settings. Whether you're at work, school, or your local coffee shop, these are not just places you go—they are mission fields. Your presence there is intentional, and every interaction is an opportunity to reflect God's love.

Connect Strategically

Think about the people you see regularly. Do you know their names? Do you know their stories? Building authentic relationships with those around you is key to living sent. It's not about having a hidden agenda; it's about genuinely caring for people. Every friendship can open doors to share God's love. As you connect with others, remember that every relationship is a gospel opportunity. Be intentional in your interactions and look for ways to serve others without expecting anything in return.

Create Multiplication Movements

Sharing your faith is like teaching someone to ride a bike. Once you learn, you can teach others, who will then teach their friends. This is how we create multiplication movements. Develop leaders who will train others, and establish simple, reproducible systems for sharing the gospel. Whether it's reading the Gospel of John with a friend or sharing your blessings, burdens, and breakthroughs over coffee, keep it simple and shareable. Every workplace is a mission field, and every profession is a pulpit.

Transform Through Unity

Jesus' prayer in John 17 is all about collaboration. Imagine if all local churches focused on sharing Jesus rather than their differences. We could transform our entire region so much faster. Partner with others beyond boundaries and work together for something bigger than ourselves. As we unite around our purpose as sent people, real change happens in our community. We can measure our missional impact by tracking stories of transformation and joining God in His work.

Conclusion

The point is, Jesus wants us to live sent in our community. What steps will you take this week to embrace your mission field? Identify three places where you spend most of your time and start building intentional relationships. Look for ways to serve strategically and partner with others in gospel mission. Remember, it's not where you go—it's where you're sent. Let's unite around our purpose and watch our community transform.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for placing us exactly where we are meant to be. Help us to embrace our sent identity and live with purpose in every interaction. Guide us as we build authentic relationships and serve others with Your love. Unite us in our mission to transform our community and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
