Be a Strategically Placed Well: Empowered to Share Living Water

Have you ever wondered how you can make a real impact in the world around you? You’re not alone. Many of us struggle with finding our purpose and understanding how we can be effective in our mission as followers of Jesus. Today, we’re diving into a powerful concept from Pastor Pencil’s recent sermon: being a strategically placed well. This idea can transform how you see your role in God’s kingdom and help you make a lasting difference.

Jesus Shifts Our Paradigms

Jesus has a way of turning our thinking upside down. He moves us from a mindset of “Are you worthy?” to “Are you thirsty?” In His time, the Jewish people had 613 laws that acted like fence posts, determining who was in and who was out. But Jesus came to remove those fences and place wells instead. He simplified the commandments to two essential wells: Love God and Love Others (Matthew 22:37-40).

Think about it: if you have the right wells, you don’t need all the fences. Jesus invites us to focus on drawing people to the living water rather than keeping them out with rules. This shift from a fence-based to a well-based paradigm is crucial for us as believers.

Jesus Calls Us to Fulfill Our Mission

Jesus has a mission for each of us, and it’s centered around being a source of living water for those who are spiritually thirsty. In John 7:38, Jesus says, “The one who believes in me, as the scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.” This means that when we believe in Jesus, His living water flows through us to others.

So, what does it mean to be a strategically placed well? It means being available and ready to share the love and truth of Jesus wherever you are. Just like Philip in Acts 8, who was led by the Spirit to meet the Ethiopian eunuch on a desert road, we too can be led to places where people are thirsty for the gospel.

How to Be a Strategically Placed Well

  1. Recognize Spiritual Thirst: Everyone around you is spiritually thirsty, whether they realize it or not. Jesus’ invitation in John 7:37 is for anyone who is thirsty to come to Him and drink. Be aware of the spiritual needs of those around you and be ready to point them to Jesus.
  2. Focus on Wells, Not Fences: Instead of focusing on who is worthy, focus on who is thirsty. Show love and compassion, just as Jesus did with the woman caught in adultery. He didn’t condemn her; He offered her living water and a chance to change her life.
  3. Trust the Holy Spirit’s Leading: Just as Philip was led to the Ethiopian eunuch, trust that the Holy Spirit will guide you to people who need to hear about Jesus. Be open and willing to go where He leads, even if it seems unexpected or inconvenient.

Conclusion

The point is clear: Jesus wants us to be strategically placed wells, offering His living water to a spiritually thirsty world. What will you do this week to become a well instead of a fence? How can you show love and compassion to those around you and point them to Jesus?

If you don’t take this step, you’ll miss out on the incredible opportunity to be used by God in powerful ways. Don’t just inform or inspire—act. Be direct and specific in your approach. Trust that God will use you to make a difference.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, thank You for shifting our paradigms and calling us to be strategically placed wells. Help us to recognize the spiritual thirst around us and to focus on loving You and others. Lead us by Your Holy Spirit to those who need Your living water. Use us to make a lasting impact in Your kingdom. In Your name, we pray. Amen.

By embracing this concept and taking concrete steps to be a well, you can transform your life and the lives of those around you. Let’s go out and be the wells that draw people to the living water of Jesus.
