You might be wondering how to make the most of the new year. If you're like me, the start of a new year feels like a fresh canvas, a chance to reset and refocus. As we step into 2025, it's not just about flipping the calendar; it's about embracing the opportunity for a new you. This isn't about making resolutions that fade by February. It's about genuine spiritual transformation, moving from being passive observers to active participants in God's story. So, how can you make this year different? How can you let go of the past and embrace the new things God wants to do in your life?
The main point of our recent sermon was clear: God is in the business of making all things new, including you. Revelation 21:5 reminds us, "Look, I am making everything new." This isn't just a future promise; it's a present reality. God is constantly at work, renewing us day by day. The Apostle Paul echoes this in 2 Corinthians 5:17, saying, "If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. The old has passed away, and the new has come." This year, let's focus on releasing the past, investing in what truly matters, and taking strategic steps forward.

This year, let's focus on releasing the past, investing in what truly matters, and taking strategic steps forward.
Release the Past to Embrace the New
To step into the new, we must first let go of the old. Philippians 3:13 encourages us to forget what is behind and reach forward to what lies ahead. What are the weights from yesterday that you need to release? Maybe it's regrets or a comfort zone that's holding you back. Letting go isn't easy, but it's necessary for growth. Consider what you need to leave behind to embrace the new opportunities God has for you.
Invest In What Matters Most
As you plan for the new year, think about your priorities. What if everything you invested in disappeared tomorrow? What would truly matter? Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 to seek first the kingdom of God. This year, focus on eternal investments. Build relationships that last, and develop spiritual disciplines that strengthen your faith. Start with small, consistent steps like daily Bible reading or joining a community group. These investments never crash and have lasting impact.
Take Strategic Steps Forward
Small steps can lead to big changes. You don't have to overhaul your life overnight. Instead, focus on taking one small step at a time. Luke 16:10 reminds us that faithfulness in little things leads to greater opportunities. Whether it's starting a new habit or building a support system, consistency is key. Surround yourself with a community that sharpens you, as Proverbs 27:17 says, "Iron sharpens iron."
Commit to Finishing Well
Starting strong is easy, but finishing well is where the real challenge lies. As the year progresses, distractions and setbacks will come. But remember, setbacks can be setups for something greater. Keep your focus on the eternal prize, as Paul did in Philippians 3:14. Build resilience and stay committed to your spiritual journey. Your labor in the Lord is never in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).
As we move into 2025, what's your next step? Maybe it's letting go of the past, investing in something eternal, or simply starting a new spiritual discipline. Whatever it is, take that step today. You don't need to see the whole staircase; just take the next step in faith.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, as we step into this new year, help us to embrace the new things you want to do in our lives. Give us the courage to let go of the past and the wisdom to invest in what truly matters. Guide us in taking small, consistent steps towards spiritual growth. May we finish this year stronger than we started, with our eyes fixed on you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
