Membership in City United Church is available to all who are true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ
and who have been born again by the Word of God, through receiving Him as personal Savior.
They must also have been baptized by full immersion in water after believing in Christ for
salvation, the ordinance of baptism being a symbolic public testimony representing the death of
the individual to the old life through the death of Christ and resurrection to new life in Him
(Rom. 6:3-11).
City United Church members are in agreement with the biblical doctrines set forth in Article IV and with the purpose stated in Article VI of our church Constitution and By Laws, and the following commitment expresses the firm intention of the members of this church.
Our United Creed
1. I Will Worship (Matthew 4:10; Romans 12:1-2)
I will worship God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit (“you shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve” Matthew 4:10 NKJV). I will strive to honor God with my life and my resources! To worship God is to give God worth, praise, and glory. God is the only One worthy of everything!
2. I Will Be United (Philippians 2:1-2; Ephesians 4)
I will collaborate, work alongside, and unite with Jesus Christ and His Church. I will be a part of a loving community that emphasizes using my God-given gifts, talents, and abilities to build up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16). Nobody is ever alone in this world, we have Jesus Christ and one other! Our job is to love, respect, and encourage each other on our unique journey's while thriving for the ultimate goal in Christ!
3. I Will Grow (1 Peter 2:1-3; Galatians 5:22-23)
I will take personal responsibility for my spiritual maturity and individual relationship with God, alongside a passionate community of people desiring to do the same. I will value the fruits of the Spirit, “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23), as they are the expressions of growing and becoming more Christ-like. We all stumble (James 3:2) and will do so even in sanctification. Spiritual growth is hard, but it is worth the effort because Jesus will always be!
4. I Will Give (Mark 12:44; 2 Corinthians 9:6-8)
I will put God first in my finances by giving back to God through His church. How much I give does not matter as much as the heart behind it! “They all gave out of their wealth; but she [widow], out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on” (Mark 12:44 NIV).
5. I Will Defend (Romans 1:16; Ephesians 6:11)
I will defend the truth of the Gospel against a sinful culture, my flesh, and the enemy for God's glory. “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11 NKJV). Jesus has already provided victory towards those who are His, He just calls us to remain faithful to Him!
6. I Will Multiply (Matthew 28:18-20)
I will multiply by sharing my faith and making disciples who make disciples. Jesus calls His followers to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19 NIV). We are able to achieve this as believers by continually sharing the Gospel with a lost world who desperately needs the hope that can only be found in Jesus!
How Do You Become a Member?
1. Attend a Next Steps Open House.
At a City United Next Steps Open House, you get to know us, and we get to know you. They are one hour long, in person, fun, and informative. Sign up to attend the next one below.
2. Confirm your salvation and biblical baptism by immersion.
The two biblical requirements for church membership are belief in Jesus as Savior and biblical baptism by immersion. Once these are met, membership is the next logical step!
3. Sign up to become a member at our next Membership Sunday!
We dedicate one weekend per month for our new members to present themselves before the church at the end of a gathering. They receive a gift from the leadership team, and one of our pastors prays over them as they start the next phase of their journey with City United Church.
